Phong Tran

Phong Tran, 15, of Naples, Florida went home to be with the Lord on April 1st, 2022 at John Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St.Petersburg, Florida.

Born on August 8th, 2006, he shared the same birthday as his Mother Ai Le. He was in 10th grade attending school at Gulf Coast High School. He was part of his school’s Model United Nations club and participated in their cross country club.

Phong was a man of many names and went by Michael Jr. after his father, Phongmie by his mother, and John by the Catholic Church.

He was the youngest of 4 brothers: Thai, Sonny, and Duongie Tran who teased him relentlessly and loved him just the same.

He had a large family. To Phong, family was most important. He knew more than all of us that family is necessary and precious. He wanted to spend every holiday and vacation with his cousins, Aunts, and Uncles. He loved playing with his younger cousins and treated them gently. In his numbered days, he strived to connect us all. Phong, Thank you for teaching us the value of family.

Phongmie had a stunning capacity for endurance and kindness. His strength and wit never wavered even in his last moments. To his nurses and doctors, it was a privilege to take care of Phong. To them , he was fun and considerate and strong willed even in critical condition. Against all odds, he proved to them time and time again that the mind is stronger than matter.

Although his time here was limited, we are eternally grateful for him. Through all his health tribulations, he remained happy and grateful for all people in his life. He was grace and resilience. Phong, you taught us lessons that we will carry with us forever.

Phong, we think about you always. We talk about you still. You have never been forgotten and you never will. We hold you close within our hearts and there you will remain. To walk and guide us through our lives. This isn't goodbye, it's until we meet again.
