Obituary of Cary Lamar Greene Bond

BOND, Cary Lamar Greene

94, beloved wife of the late Ninian Ulysses Bond Jr., died peacefully June 14, 2018. She was born in Baltimore, MD September 26, 1923 and grew up in Augusta, GA. She had three daughters: the late Cary Bond Thomas, Judy Bond Codding who, with her husband, Richard, lives in Los Angeles, CA and Barbara Bond Madison, who with her husband, Wayne, lives in Clemson, SC.

 Cary was extremely close to, and dearly loved by, her seven grandchildren, Cary Thomas Rahall, Bond Thomas, Barbara Codding, Amanda Codding, Richard Codding Jr, Alan Madison and Martha DeDonato and her twelve great-grandchildren. Cary was the daughter of Mrs. Nellie Lamar Greene and Col. J. Woodall Greene, who was a senior aide to General Douglas MacArthur from WWI through the Korean War. Her family, the Lamar’s, included two U.S. Supreme Court Justices. Cary summered in St. Petersburg beginning in the 1930s and moved to St. Petersburg over 75 years ago when she married the love of her life, Nin Bond.

 Cary was a very active member of the St. Petersburg community. She held many different offices in the St. Petersburg Junior League, was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Dali Museum, the First Presbyterian Church and the St. Petersburg Yacht Club since 1942. She was a charter member of the Stuart Society and a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames. Cary and Nin summered in Highlands, NC for over 40 years where they were members of the Highlands Falls Country Club.

 Cary was an avid tennis player, loved dancing and traveling and excelled at playing contract and duplicate bridge where she participated in many tournaments and had many master points. Cary was a devoted mother, grandmother and great friend to all who knew her. She was known as Aunt Cary and Granny to many in St. Petersburg. She had a love of life and a marvelous sense of humor and will be greatly missed.

 The family is having a private burial. There will be a 11 am, memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church, September 21 and a luncheon following the service where family and friends of the beloved Cary will celebrate her wonderful life. In lieu of flowers, donations in Cary’s memory may be made to the First Presby1erian Church, the Museum of Fine Arts or to Suncoast Hospice. Anderson-McQueen Family Tribute Centers
