Obituary of Sue Akins Martin

MARTIN, Sue Akins died September 1, 2018 in St. Petersburg after a long struggle with her health. Sue was born on Oct. 2, 1939 in Atlanta, GA to her parents, J.C. and Millie Akins. She graduated from Northeast High School in St. Petersburg where she was on the homecoming court. She married Dr. Charles “Chuck” Martin in 1962. They were members of the Cathedral Church of St. Peter where they taught Sunday school together and she joined St. Monica’s Guild. They shared a deep appreciation of music and literature. Sue enjoyed travel, cooking for family and playing her piano. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Corydon Martin and Jean Tippett of St. Petersburg; sisters Jill Cullum, and Jane Lane; and grandchildren Joshua, Julia, and Charlotte. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Chad Akins; sister Judy Brown; husband Charles and sons Joel and Jonathan. Funeral service will be held  Sunday, Sept 16, 2 pm at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, 104 4th St. N., followed by a visitation in the parish hall.
