Obituary of Stephen David Thomas

Stephen David Thomas passed away October 14, 2018 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Mound Park hospital February 5, 1939; attended local schools, graduating from St Pete High in 1956. He went to SPJC (now St Petersburg College), Stetson University, graduating from Stetson College of Law on 1962. After enlisting in the Air Force, he attended Officers Candidates School graduating in the top 10% of his class. He served as a base procurement officer at Hamilton AFB, CA., Iraklio Crete, and Nellis AFB Nev. He returned to St Petersburg and practiced law for 38 years. Steve loved music since childhood and was a member of the St Petersburg Boys’ Choir and played viola in the first St Petersburg symphony orchestra. He had specialty roles in The Junior League Follies and was a pianist for the Suncoasters Festival of Stats Junior Sungoddess Competition from 1982-1998. He was a long time member if the Museum of Fine Arts; a 50 year member of the Florida Bar; a past president of the St Petersburg Civitan Club; past captain of the Buckateers Yacht Club; a member of The Club, Treasure Island; Tennessee Squire and the First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; sister and brother in law, Mary Ellen and Tom Shevlin; niece, Katie Shevlin; and cousins, Del Smith (Marcelle) Markham Ont., J. Alan Smith (Trish) Dorval, Que, and Pat Shebib, Dorval Que.

Steve and Nancy traveled extensively and visited all seven continents. Their favorite retreat remained their Blue Ridge Mountain home.

Memorials would be appreciated to Steve’s favorite charities and the First United Methodist Church, the Museum of Fine Arts, or St Petersburg Civitan Club.

A memorial service will be held at 11am Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at The First United Methodist Church. Light lunch and reception are to follow in the Fellowship Hall
