Obituary of John Michael Quimby

John Michael Quimby, son of Catherine Theresa (Corcoran) and Alfred Quimby lost his two-year battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, November 19th at 5:24 AM.  He leaves behind; his wife Anita Armstrong of St Petersburg, Florida, his son Christopher Quimby and his partner Alicia Romano of Boston, MA, his sister Jean her husband Jim Donohoe of Hopedale, MA, and their daughters Theresa and Rita of Boston, MA, a step-daughter, Samantha Armstrong, and many loving friends.  

 

John was a Brockton native who graduated Brockton High School in 1973 and then earned a B.S. degree (Cum Laude) from UMASS Amherst. John worked in television advertising sales and other sales positions before earning certifications in computer programming. He joined the staff of SunLife Insurance as a programmer and in 2007, he and his wife relocated to Florida.  After a brief stint at Amazon, John was hired as an Information Technology professional at US Special Operations Command in Tampa, where he worked until he was disabled by AML in 2016.  

 

A lover of music, travel, and the ocean, John was a certified diver and avid snorkeler. Until illness prevented him, John was also active in politics and volunteered on campaigns for progressive candidates. A private celebration of life preceded his death, and a memorial is being planned at his home in the near future. In lieu of flowers, John requested donations be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or any progressive political action group
