My husband Scott and I were out of the country when Hazel Hough passed away and we were so sorry to have missed the gathering and service for her.
Many years ago, I met Hazel Hough through my employment at William R. Hough & Co. I had the pleasure of working along side her to plan a few of the Christmas Parties and Company outings for WRH & Co. She was facsinating and full of stories about downtown St. Petersburg and about the local art scene here.
She was an elegant lady who was smart, kind and generous.
She will certainly be missed by many.
With love and prayers to Mr. Hough and the Hough family on the loss of this beautiful lady.

Hazel touched so many with such an approachable kind way. She always welcomed everyone with elegant kindness. I use to see her in the park on my morning walks and she always had a beautiful smile for me. The world will miss her with sorrow, yet celebrate her with delight.

Frank and I are among the many who have had the honor to meet Mrs. Hazel Hough. And though we shared only a handful of meaningful conversations, she never knew just how much I enjoyed our talks. I admired Hazel for who she was as a person, a mother, and as a humanitarian. One couldn't resist her southern charm and her kind and thoughtful way she engaged others. I particularly liked our inspiring conversations on motherhood. Without a doubt, her family was most important to her...with the history of Florida being a close second :)
She demonstrated a lifetime of selfless promotion of the arts and education through her generosity of time and treasure as she wanted to share the joy she found in the humanities with everyone around her. Frank and I are among the many in this great city of St. Petersburg who will forever smile and think of Hazel and her dear husband who have helped to build and grow the presence of the humanities within our great city.
Our hearts are heavy for you and your family in your time of sorrow.

As Bill's senior partner in life, she added wisdom, levity, and just plain common sense to all she touched. Our community will miss her talents and generosity. She was truly one of a kind and a model that many used as an example. She will be missed.

I was so saddened to hear of Hazel' s passing. Although I'm not back in St. Petersburg until this fall, as Docent Council Chairman this season at our Museum of Fine Arts, I'd like to feel I'm representing all of our docents who knew and loved Hazel Hough. She was so admired and respected that when she went into a non-tour giving category in 1996, she was honored by our Docent Council and Curator of Public Programs by being unanimously voted a Docent Emerita for outstanding and numerous services to the MFA.
I enjoyed going on a number of museum trips in which she was involved; the last being a visit to Cuba for study purposes. She always had a smiling face and pleasant words and was a true lady in all respects. I also enjoyed her reaction to the singer Seal's featured performance when I was in the audience for the Florida Orchestra's last Gala at Mahaffey, and I had a chance to say hello. She was a delightful person to know.

It is hard to imagine St. Petersburg without Hazel. She was one of the most gracious, generous, warm and thoughtful - not to mention talented! - people I have known, and my heart hurts at her passing. How wonderful, though, that she got to live a long life blessed with love and adventures. May all who loved her have peace.

I was sad to learn of Hazels passing, but this much I know for sure; Hazel lived a vibrant and exceptional life! I always enjoyed my time spent with her. We shared wonderful discussions about a variety of topics. I admired Hazel and will continue to enjoy my fond memories. Someone once told me that a life lived without service to others is a life wasted. No one understood and executed that more profoundly than Hazel. Condolences to Bill and the entire Hough family. It is time to celebrate the wonderful life and accomplishments of Hazel Hough. P.S. In all my time chatting with Hazel, she never mentioned that she was a singer! Nothing about this women surprises me!

What a grand lady and stunning lifelong supporter of this cultural
community we call home. When I was going off to college there was just
the History Museum and trips to the Ringling Museum. I shared with
Hazel this observation and she said, "Well, Eric, we will have to do something
about this." And indeed the Houghs did.
On the St. Peter's choir England Tour in early 1980s, we were rehearsing
for Evensong at Westminster Abbey. At an opportune time, like when the
choir director was not looking, Hazel and I slipped out to the back of the Abbey
to see the Henry Moore sculpture. Hazel said, "I will never be the same."
And we both agreed that Director Robert Setzer would never be the same!
The Museum of Fine Arts thrives today because of the dedication and
generosity of Hazel and Bill Hough.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Eric Lang Peterson, St. Petersburg
