Dear Peggy,
I was so sorry to read of Harry's passing, so in a way, happy to see you and Harry have had so many happy years together in Florida. All sorts of feelings become relative as the years go by, don't they? Reading his obituary brought back all my happy memories being young growing families together in C.C. at church, circle meetings, and Constant Comment Tea! We had such good times together. I truly do share your grief and pain, Bill died 4 years ago and I, too, am in the club that has so many of us dealing with living on without our partners. I'm grateful I was able to be there for him, but oh, what a deep hole it leaves in our lives. I like to think they'd be proud of us as we keep on going, but it's not an easy road to travel. Know that I'm thinking about you, sending love and sympathy, and hope that your many many years of loving memories will help you on your way. This summer I've noticed some of the rough edges softening; RVs don't make me cry anymore. I just sigh and try to be grateful for what once was. I've also learned it's never enough. Write, if you'd like to, take as much time as you need. It takes as long as it takes to re-enter - take it.
Love,
Amy (973-476-5601, same address)

Harry's smile, laughter, hugs, wisdom, and friendship meant the world to me. We first met him and Peggy at church in St. Pete and almost Immediately our friendship quickly grew into wild and crazy domino games with he and Peggy, and Jerry and Connie Knight. It was these priceless Domino events where I was introduced to Harry's quick wit, competitiveness, charm, and yes - at times, sneakiness...... I loved him. (Come to think of it, I always will, no matter where he hangs out.)
His love for Peggy was another one of my very favorite things about him. The way he called her "my bride". How he looked at her and smiled. My heart would get all warm and tears would fill my eyes. I would look over at him and smile, knowing he knew exactly how he had touched my heart with his "old world" charm. What a classy guy.
The stories the two of them told about their early days together were simply unforgettable and priceless. They would warmly smile and laugh together and share unspoken memories, even with the rest of us in the room (planning our winning next domino moves).
I could go on and on, but my tears are welling up. Harry wouldn't want me to cry, unless they were happy tears from laughter. Besides I know where he is now. And he is no longer in pain. No longer pulling that little pad of paper out of his shirt pocket, tracking how much liquid he has had to drink. He is making the heaven folks smile and laugh, he is watching over his "bride". We love you Harry. Always.

I am so sorry to read this about Harry, but what a blessed life he had. I worked with Harry for several years at GPU, and he is the person responsible for my love of volunteer work. Truly a man who lived the Gospel, did for others, and spread joy. My heartfelt condolences to his family, and I know he will rest in God's eternal glory. Fondly, Michele McCue Shaffer
