Obituary of Jennie Elizabeth (Leko) Zsampar
Jennie Elizabeth (Leko) Zsampar, age 89, joined her beloved husband Stephen in Heaven on Sunday, August 11th. She is survived by her children Lisa Zsampar Rau and Michael Zsampar, grandchildren Brianna Holzerland, Kara Holzerland and Nicholas Holzerland and many beloved nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at St. Raphael's Catholic Church on Saturday, August 24th at 11am followed by a reception.
Jennie was born in Fairfield, Connecticut in 1927 and moved to St. Petersburg in 1972. She was a long time member of Saint Raphael’s Catholic Church and spent many years as a loving and active part of her grandchildren's lives... watching them when they were young and after school. Here are some of their memories. The eldest, Brianna, now age 27, still ate cookies together almost every night with her and watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. When they were little, she made homemade macaroni, everyone had to sit at the table and finish it. If they didn’t finish it she would chase everyone around with the broom. She spent hours reading to them and watching their favorite shows like "Little Bear" and "Franklin". Even now she loved watching Americas Got Talent with Brianna and voiced her opinion how how terrible half the acts were. They listened to Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin all the time. She loved the song “I’ve Got A Crush On You”. Lovingly nicknamed by Brianna as "Fred" (we're not sure why), she bossed everyone around and had a contagious laugh. She kept her house ship shape... only two weeks ago she was mad that her hair was cut without newspaper being put down on the floor. Jennie was the definition of unconditional love and we were all lucky enough to experience that. While she is not in the human form anymore, she is definitely still here with us. She will be greatly missed.
