I’m so sad to hear of Professor Spicer’s passing a couple of years ago, but would like to extend my belated condolences to his family. He was my English professor at Wor-Wic Tech some 30+ years ago, but I still think of him from time to time and Googled him, which led me to here. Dr. Spicer was one of the kindest-hearted teachers I’ve ever had and showed more interest in my feeble poetry than was deserved. I was an angry and troubled 19-20 year old at that time and his attention and genuine concern about my life and well-being meant the world to me, even though I wouldn’t have admitted it at the time! I’m embarrassed to say, but he even came to visit me when I had to serve a few weeks in jail for DUI. Now that’s a dedicated teacher! Neither of us wanted to be there, but he cared enough to check on me and try to lift my spirits, which was exceptionally kind of him. I’m a psychologist now and still write the occasional silly poem, so I turned out okay, but I don’t know if anyone will consider me as great of a man as I consider Larry Spicer. God bless and rest in much deserved peace. Love you, Jeff Hart.

Larry Spicer was one of the kindest and noblest people I have known. His mere presence in the office next to mine and his unfailing friendship and support made my job—and indeed my life—richer for the many years that we worked together. I am deeply saddened to learn of his passing but will forever remember him with fondness and gratitude.

Dear Alba,
I am so sad to hear of Larry's passing. He had such a spark for life. He was such a caring person as well. I remember his words of encouragement at my nursing graduation. He hardly knew me but took the time to congratulate me and offer support. I am thinking of you Alba and praying for you. Love and prayers, Paula

My heart aches for not only the loss of a dear friend but also my "brother. Larry grew up with us and was practically part of the family. Where ever we went....Larry went. He was so special and so, so funny ! My Dad was a rather stoic person but when Larry was around....we had never seen my Dad laugh so hard and so much. He was my brother Joe's best friend and they were some pair!!
He was at my Father's wake and he gave the eulogy at my Mother's funeral service.....he gave an eloquent and beautiful eulogy of love and family and friendship that spanned decades.
He left a beautiful family to cherish his memory.
I shall miss you always....Love...Terry

Larry was my sixth grade teacher in 1968-1969 at Sacred Heart in The Bronx. There were more than 35 young boys in that class and he played an integral role in helping us become young men. That particular period was a volatile time in the US with the escalation of the war in Viet Nam, civil unrest in various parts of the country, the assassinations of Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy yet Larry was able to keep our focus on becoming better students and better people. He was tough, but fair and he always treated us as young men, not as children. He was generous with his time and his students loved him for that. In speaking with many of my former classmates over the years, Larry was always mentioned as a major influence in our lives. God bless Larry and his family.
