He is also survived by many more family and friends.

Ken Bartlett was born on March 17th, 1949 in Rome, NY to Louis and Dorothy Bartlett. He graduated from highschool and immediately joined the U.S. Marine Corps, and was subsequently deployed in service to Viet Nam. After serving, he caught a glimpse of Joan Toney, while working as a security guard for the U. S. Embassy in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. It was love at first sight! After a whirlwind romance, the two were married October 7th, 1972. They welcomed their son, Jeffry to the world October 5th, of the following year. Ken named his son Jeffry to honor the memory of his close friend, who died during the war. Ken worked security for several companies over the years, including Ford Motor Company and the state of Florida Department of Corrections.

Ken was an avid fan of baseball and loved watching the Dodgers every season. He was fascinated by the Civil War, eagerly studying that period of U.S. history, often imparting his knowledge to friends and family, as he soon became an accomplished historian on the subject. Ken was an outgoing and friendly man, well known by everyone of his acquaintance by his generous and giving nature. Ken was extremely proud of his country and of his service in the Marine Corp, at times regaling his family with stories that he would laugh or cry over, respectively. He was the first to welcome several young people back from their tours in the Middle East, buying them drinks at the bar, upon their safe return, and always asking about them when they were away in service. Ken loved to fish with his son Jeff, and was seen on the dance floor with his wife, when his favorite song came on the jukebox. Ken loved children, giving generously during the holidays to Toys for Tots, and ensuring any child visiting their home for Christmas had lots of presents under the tree. Above all, Ken deeply valued his family. Even after becoming disabled due to his prior military service, he never complained about anything he went through physically. He was grateful for everything he had in life and his face would light up with smiles when his family walked through the front door to visit.

A memorial service is scheduled for January 3rd in the Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1PM. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ken’s life.
