Daniel Cook

Obituary of Daniel D. Cook

Cook, Daniel D.  “Danny”, 65, of St. Petersburg passed away on May 4, 2020. Born in Panama City, Florida, to parents Robert E. and Hazel G. He moved to St. Petersburg in his early childhood.

Early on, Daniel discovered his love of working with his hands, and eventually settled on the career of being a mechanic. When his father opened Bob Cook’s Fleet service, he went into the family business, later carrying on the tradition by working with his eldest son until the shop’s closure. Afterwards, he opened his own business, Cracker Dan’s, and continued to use his skills under the hood to help friends and strangers alike. Within the community, he was well-known to be a person to call in times of mechanical crises, no matter the time of day or night.

Daniel enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spent time whenever he could in the woods, even if just observing nature, frequently taking the time even in city to slow down and observe birds of prey and their young.

Daniel was a faithful parishioner at St. Paul Catholic Church, working hard to put his children through Catholic school and teach them by example how to live a good life. One of his favorite times of the year was attending the annual Festival and the opportunity it provided to catch up with friends while listening to music in the food tent.

Daniel is preceded in death by his parents and three of his siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife, Jean, and their three children, Michael, Melissa, and Robert, his son-in-law, Matthew, as well as two treasured grandchildren, Julius and Cordelia.

A funeral mass will be held Friday, June 26th at St. Paul's Catholic Church at 10:00am.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to St. Paul’s Catholic School, 1900 12th St. N. St. Petersburg, FL 33704 for Tuition Assistance for Families in Need.
