A lot of people thought they new Hector. I knew when he was first starting outing the sixties. I helped arrange for his first album.
had dinner with him many times at my home on lake George when he was playing there that
summer. a lot of time has gone buy since then and we went our separate ways. He died on the 28th of July my birthday is on the 27th of July. he wrote a son for my wife, Chris Song. When i came to see him play and he saw me, the very next song he sung was Chris song. He never said anything about it, nor did I.I was understood it was for my wife, Chris. What we keep in memory is unchanged forever. It was private because I asked Hector not to mention my name. He respected that. Wonder if he thought about me as i have him in past years. we move on and are better for all relationships. Short as they are sometimes, but those are sometimes the best as they are left unfiltered in that moment of time and not tarnished because of any duration of time in length which leads to different opinions as we move on in life. It was a great tome for Hector and I, short as it was.

Hector and I played together in Albany from 1972-1974. Sometimes a duo, sometimes a trio with Fred Simmons. I remember well our rehearsals in a living room in Guilderland that We turned into a makeshift studio recording “No Water” (probably my favorite Hector composition) or “Maybe Crazy” a song of mine that I was honored when Hector recorded it. There was this kinetic energy around Hector (I think it was the hair!) and that smile and twinkle in his eye that were so welcoming, engaging and loving. There were moments in our performances when the harmonies were really clicking and we’d all look at each other and smile that smile that said it all - it doesn’t get any better than this. Hector had a special gift. That first night I saw him holding court at the Telly Tavern in Troy and he still had it when I “Zoomed” in earlier this year to catch a show. We were band mates, roommates and life long brothers in our love of music. I will play “No Water” tonight, remember his amazing covers of literally anything ever recorded and thank him for his love and friendship.

My deepest heartfelt condolences to Lisa, Ethan, family, and family of friends; too numerous to count♡ I met Hector in Lake George, NY 1979 @Poor Richards Pub. Our "wild band of gypsies " and Rowdy Bikers followed him to Saratoga Springs, where most of us lived; all over NYS then all the way St. Pete Beach. He couldn't shake us if he tried☺ We truly loved Hector, not just for his music, but mostly for his soul...he was absolutely the embodiment of all that is good, hilarious , kind, forgiving , and self admittedly, flawed. ♡ To " Our Barefoot Puerto Rican" Godspeed . ..we'll see you when we get there". Much love.
