Obituary of June R Einboden

June Rose Einboden, 93 of St. Petersburg passed away peacefully on August 14.  She was born July 6, 1927 in Detroit.

June lived a long, fulfilling life as a friend, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a community and political activist. She was a writer of poetry, short stories, and non-fiction human-interest stories featuring others and herself.  She worked as a real estate agent and broker and gave many hours volunteering to help others.

She came to Pass-A-Grille with a friend at just 19 years old, enjoying the beach and warm Florida weather. She supported herself with several jobs including waitressing at the Seahorse Restaurant where her photo from 1946 is still displayed. She knew many of the people that would transform the area including Silas Dent and other Cabbage Key (now Tierra Verde) homesteaders.  When her friend decided to marry and live on Cabbage Key, June returned to Detroit, but knew she would be back.

She married and started a family. In 1967 she returned to St. Petersburg permanently with her husband Herbert (Bud) and their three children. They bought the LaRinda Motor Lodge off 4th Street N.  Running a business while raising a family didn’t keep her from writing or community work. She was a founding member of the Women’s Democratic Club of St. Petersburg and was elected a delegate to the 1972 Democratic National Convention.  One of her previously published poems became part of the John F. Kennedy exhibit at the Florida International Museum.  She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist - St. Petersburg.

The motel business didn’t last long, but her roots in St. Petersburg deepened. While in Real Estate and after, she volunteered at We Help, part of the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. When her husband retired they became Guardian Ad Litems, advocating for children. She became a volunteer and docent at the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, providing first-hand accounts from her time on Pass-A-Grille.

Late in life JuneBug’s memory failed her, but she kept her writer’s vocabulary for the longest time and her sharp sense of humor until the end.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bud, her sister Leta (Hunter) and granddaughter Pamela (Thompson).  She is survived by daughters Jill Harper (Mark) and Janet Conrad (Sonny), son Paul Einboden (Leah), grandson Mark Bortel (Joel Poulter), granddaughters Jennifer Balcom and  Jennifer Hewitt (Brock) and great-grandchildren Everett and Tyler Hewitt.
