Obituary of Joshua Houghton

Houghton, Joshua “Josh”, 48, of Pinellas Park passed away September 9, 2020 at home surrounded by his loving family. Josh fought a courageous battle against cancer, never complaining. Born and raised in St. Petersburg, he graduated from Lakewood High School, Santa Fe Community College, and The Law Enforcement Academy. Recently he completed a 5 year program to become a pipe fitter and welder. Josh was preceded in death by his mother, Danelle Sherman. He is survived by his daughter Samantha; wife Denise and her three children, Paula, Paulie, and Vinny; sister Kellie; father Bill Houghton and stepmother Amy Loughery; and his uncle Ray Houghton. Truly a native Floridian, he grew up hunting and fishing with his father. Those experiences became a lifelong passion that he enjoyed with family and friends. In his 20’s he worked with taxidermist Bo Reed who taught him the trade and helped him develop into a skilled artist. Josh dedicated himself to being a good father and friend to his daughter Sam and a truly loving husband to his wife Denise. He embraced a newfound relationship with his sister and enjoyed being with his mother who he loved dearly. Josh forged a strong bond with his father from a very early age that continued through his adult life. They spent many hours enjoying each other’s company in the great outdoors. He was a beautiful boy and a handsome man. His kind heart and big smile attracted people and animals alike. Josh enjoyed working with his hands and was a clever problem solver. Handyman extraordinaire, he built everything from bathrooms to squirrel condos. Working with his union brothers at UA Local 123 was one of his most rewarding experiences and the family is grateful for their unfailing support that bolstered his spirits and warmed his heart. He will be missed by all who knew him and especially by his loving wife Denise who fought valiantly by his side throughout his illness. In lieu of flowers, Josh would like everyone to spend a few hours outdoors doing something that brings them happiness.

A Sunset Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 19th on Pass-a-Grille beach at 16th Avenue at 6:30pm for all of Josh's family, friends, and union brothers to attend. Please bring a chair and a drink to toast with while listening to music and telling stories to celebrate his amazing life.
