Sallie Glisson

Obituary of Sallie Pendergraph Glisson

On Monday, September 7, 2020, Sallie Pendergraph Glisson, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at age 87.

Sallie was born on August 12, 1933 in Haw River, North Carolina. She moved to Miami and then to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1967 and worked for many years at Allstate Insurance Company. Sallie belonged to the Lakewood United Methodist Church where she frequently volunteered and was quite famous for her amazing deviled eggs. She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence Glisson, daughter Debbie, brothers - Eckles and Lawrence, and sisters - Margaret and Ina. She is survived by brother Scott, daughters - Terry and Donna, and sons - Chuck and Mike and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Sallie’s kind and generous spirit drew people to her, and she made friends with everyone she met. Her gift was knowing how to just sit and pay attention to the person in front of her. After she retired, for over 20 years, Sallie found a lot of joy in volunteering at Bay Point and Bay Vista Elementary schools helping to teach kindergarteners to read. She was a champion for those students that needed her most. Sallie especially loved animals and left no stray that crossed her path, without a home. She was a familiar sight in her beloved Lakewood neighborhood, always watching after her neighbors, walking her dogs, working in her garden, or feeding the ducks, songbirds and squirrels or the neighbors’ chickens. Her favorite saying was “Count your plusses, not your minuses”. Sallie was much loved and will be missed, but her spirit will live on in the many lives she touched.

A memorial service will be held at Lakewood United Methodist Church, 5995 Dr. M.L.K. Jr St S, St. Petersburg, FL 33705, on October 3rd, 2020 at 11:00.
