Obituary of Paul W Paine

Paine, Paul W., 81 of St. Petersburg, FL passed away September 8, 2020 at home, with family by his side.  Paul was born in Batavia, NY in 1938, the son of Floyd C. Paine and Nellie Boatfield Paine. He spent his younger years on the family farm. In 1958, he married Gloria Grace Stedman.  They were married for over 60 years, raising 5 children and making friendships that would last their lifetime. They briefly lived in Pavilion, then moved to Alexander, NY where Paul enjoyed working the land.  He was a skilled welder, millwright and also obtained his real estate license.  He worked for Sylvania for many years, always taking the opportunity to learn new skills.  He ended his career at Attica and Albion Correction Facilities as an Industrial Training Supervisor where he received the Governor’s Productivity Award. Paul and Gloria were adventurous and hardworking. Through the years, they built two homes themselves, one in Alexander, and one on Lake Alice. Paul loved auctions and collecting, he could be found working in his shop and continuously enhancing his properties.

 

After Paul retired, he and his wife settled in St. Petersburg, FL., while maintaining a summer residence in Batavia in order to relish the time with family and friends. Paul and Gloria renewed their wedding vows in a lovely ceremony to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in 2018. He was a great supporter of the St Petersburg Parks Department and advocated for the enhancement of the local park and surrounding neighborhood where he would walk his beloved dogs, Abby and Allie.

 

Paul was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria; his son, Timothy Paine; his parents, his sister, Miriam Farr, and his brother, John Paine. He leaves behind his children, Katrina Smith (David Schwartz), Terry Paine (Debbie), Suzanne Schauf (Richard), Karyn Carpenter (Martin); his grandchildren: Sarah Lidbom (Derek), Leslie Szafranski, Benjamin Paine, Robert Paine, Julie Molloy, Jacob Paine (Erika Weiss), Rachel Schauf, Lydia Schauf, Jacky Wheeler, Maxwell Paine, Katrina Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, Skylar Carpenter; and his great-grandchildren: Issac Lidbom, Anna Lidbom, Hazel Lidbom, Eliot Szafranski, and Holden Paine. 

 

He received the following accolades for his volunteer efforts: Honorable Mention in City of St. Petersburg Senior Hall of Fame, long time member of Alexander Fire Department, and Certificate of Merit for NY State Civil Service Commission

 

A Celebration of Life will be held in Florida on a date to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch.
