Uncle Pat was a dedicated, loyal and valuable citizen of his country. He served in the Armed Services (Air Force) for many years and saw action in several armed conflicts. We can never thank him enough for his service. He was a loving Husband, Uncle and contributing member of society. We will miss you Uncle Pat. May you rest in peace.

Uncle Pat, while we saw you all too infrequently, the times we were able to spend together are etched in memory due to your wonderful ability to tell stories that were so compelling both about your career and your experience at Ohio State. You showed us how to exhibit pride in meaningful experiences.
You beamed when you spoke of playing in the OSU marching band and to this day, they are among the finest in the college world. However, nothing outshines your enthusiasm for the service you provided to our country as a ranking member of our airforce. Admittedly, those stories help my attention and remain memorable, even for my children and I believe you only told them once. Numerous tales about the missions you flew were exciting but the mission you never had to fly is the most memorable. While our country is so grateful for all that you did, it is that mission to Cuba and that tale for how close you came to having to fly that mission that our country is most thankful to her that it ended with you shutting down your engines. The way you talked about it with us; the detail, the suspense, and the fear you felt while waiting were so vividly conveyed that it was impossible to see how dedicated and proud you were of your entire service.
My thoughts wouldn't be complete without mentioning golf. The love you and Mona had for the time you could spend on the course was conveyed to me well before I showed interest in the sport. Today, it is among my favorite ways to spend time. We only got to play together one or two times. Most memorable for me is how quickly you were to mention Mona's superior game and how proud you were of her. As I write, I marvel at how powerful a figure you were in our family even as we saw so little of you.
Rest in peace Uncle Pat, Lieutenant Colonel Finlay
