Obituary of James Hoyt

On Friday, December 11, 2020, James L Hoyt, loving husband of Carol MacClary Hoyt, and father of Michael Hoyt and Carolyn Hoyt Scruggs, passed away peacefully at his home in Tierra Verde, Florida, at the age of 81.

Jim was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 28, 1939, and grew up In Moosup, CT.

He graduated from All Hallows School as valedictorian and attended Putnam Technical School, where he studied electricity. He then went to California and graduated from Sacramento State College with a Physics Degree, later receiving his MBA from Northeastern University.  Jim served in the US Navy.

Jim was an operations engineer at the Douglas Missile and Space Center in California  and vice president of several companies before he traded in his business suit for academia.  He earned a doctorate degree in business administration from the University of Texas and taught business administration at Troy University in Alabama, where  he was an advisor to the Lambda Chi Fraternity.  He was a member of The Island Chapel, Tierra Verde, FL.

Jim’s favorite sports were snow skiing, fishing, and sailing.  He enjoyed having a small vegetable garden, doing woodworking and he loved to dance to western music.  That’s how he met Carol; and their music never stopped as he danced her around the world.
