My deepest condolences to the Hines family. Andrew H. Hines, Jr., was my mentor, my friend and my "adopted Grandfather". I first met Andy in 1996 when I first started my career in the energy business I was just starting out and by that time Andy had already retired from Florida Power. He always had time for me, to take my call or meet me for lunch. He was one of the most genuine persons I have ever met. He was constantly providing "nuggets of wisdom" One in particular which is seared on my brain is when he told me, "Glenn, just because a risk did not come to fruition does not mean that it didn't exist." I have even repeated that to my own children and immediately smiled afterwards because I knew who the author was. The last time I saw Andy we were having dinner together at Columbia's on the St. Pete Pier. I told him that I considered him my "adopted Grandfather". He smiled that smile of his and responded, "Thank you, Glenn". That meant everything to me. Andy, for me, was an example of what men should strive in life to be: Followers of Jesus Christ, faithful husbands, loving fathers, businessmen of integrity and dutiful citizens. They just don't make men like Andy anymore.
My dearest friend, you have left an indelible mark on my life and I have been very blessed to have known you and to be counted as one of your many friends. I am forever grateful for that friendship and for the many "life lessons" which you imparted to me over the years. I will hold fast to your memory because you are most definitely worth remembering. See you on the other side.
With warmest regards and great respect,
Glenn Ayala

ANDY HINES WAS A "GENTLE GIANT" WHO SHOWED RESPECT AND APPRECIATION FOR ALL. HE WAS SO CARING AND COMPASSIONATE AND WOULD ALWAYS LISTEN. JIMMY WENT TO WORK FOR FLORIDA POWER IN 1961. SO MANY WONDERFUL MEMORIES AT THE FLORIDA POWER CLUB ON COQUINA KEY . EVERY "PAYDAY FRIDAY" WE HAD A FISH FRY AND BINGO AND MOVIES FOR THE CHILDREN. ALWAYS DELICIOUS AND ALWAYS ATTENDED BY ALL CLUB MEMBERS INCLUDING THE HINES FAMILY. THE FLORIDA POWER CLUB ALSO HAD A "SWIM TEAM" OF CLUB MEMBERS' CHILDREN INCLUDING THE "HINES BOYS". "MEMORIES, MEMORIES, MEMORIES" WITH SO MUCH CREDIT FOR THE SUCCESS OF THE CLUB DUE TO ANDY HINES AND HIS CARING FOR HIS EMPLOYEES AND THEIR FAMILIES. SUCH WONDERFUL WONDERFUL TIMES. ALL THROUGH THE YEARS. ANDY WAS ALWAYS A "JOY" TO SEE AT ANY FUNCTION. HIS BIG SMILE WAS CONTAGIOUS. HIS POEMS AND CHRISTMAS CARDS WERE ALWAYS A TREASURE TO RECEIVE. GOD HAS "WELCOMED" A WONDERFUL SERVANT INTO HEAVEN. ANDY - WE WILL MISS YOU BUT OUR LOVE AND RESPECT FOR YOU WILL ALWAYS BE IN OUR HEARTS.

It was my delight to be Dad's only daughter. He and I used to go on trips together, just the two of us. In 1981 we went to Washington, D.C. together. He had business to do, and I went along for fun. It was a nice trip. I remember walking down the halls in one of the Senate office buildings and seeing Lawton Chiles coming towards us. He and Dad were good friends. Dad bought me a painting from the Smithsonian on that trip, The Voyage of Life, that I still have hanging in my living room. Thanks Dad.
The relationship Dad and I had was unique. We enjoyed debating about politics, society, culture, religion, you name it. It was refreshing to be able to discuss a wide array of topics with someone who knew what they were talking about. I do not know how one person can have such a depth of knowledge on an endless range of subjects, but Dad did. After he had a stroke in 2009 my husband, Dave, and I would go over to his house every Friday night for "dinner and a movie." We watched the BBC documentary on WWI. Even after having a stroke he was able to fill in with incredible detail about the history we were watching.
It wasn't until I became an adult myself that I was able to look back on the vista of my own childhood and youth and realize the magnitude of blessings that surrounded me having having Andy Hines as my father. He loved me with a love that was all encompassing. It was always there, no matter what. There was nothing that I could do that would shake that love. It was permanent and eternal. Just because Dad has passed does not change that love. I will miss it tremendously on this side, but it is here with me. Thanks Dad! I love you.
