The Lightning won the Stanley Cup last night and I was feeling nostalgic about the roots of Tampa Bay hockey. The Suncoast Suns was the team of our youth. I happened upon the news of Billy's passing.
Billy coached our youth hockey program at the Bayfront Center. We were blessed to have him. When he retired from hockey, he was my mom and dad's insurance guy. So sorry for your loss. I have nothing but fond memories.
Sincerely,
Jeff Feulner #4

So sorry to hear of Billy's passing. When I was a young boy, my friends and I went to the old Auditorium to watch Billy's team play the Hull-Ottawa Canadiens. Of course I had to support my cousin's team but all my friends were hoping for the home team. They were giving me a lot of grief until Billy scored the opening goal. He made me so proud to be his cousin and Billy's team went on to win the game and the playoff series.

Hi Mary Jane, I am very saddened by Billy's passing. As you know, he was something very special. A truly kind and compassionate man. Everyone I knew that worked with Billy loved him. I'm sure that is no surprise to you. Thank you for bringing Billy into my life so many years ago. I cherished our friendship and will miss him dearly. May the Grace of God be with you and your girls, sons-in-law and grandchildren.

Mary-Jane, Janelle and Jenny and families,
We are so sorry for your loss. Billy was a wonderful uncle with an infectious laugh, generous spirit, endless love for family and friends, some one of a kind sayings and always had a good story or joke to tell. We will cherish our memories from our trips to Florida forever. Billy and Mary-Jane always went out of their way to make sure we had a fantastic time. Our boys remember the trips to the Pier, spring training, the dogs, golf, hockey games and corn hole on the beach. He loved hockey and was especially proud when he took us to watch Nathan play. He kept an interest in all our boys sports, sending little mementos to them. Uncle Billy had a knack for making everyone feel special. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
We will keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
Love Brian, Angie, Eric, Ian and Ryan

I met Billy in 2000 when we were colleagues at Western Reserve/ AEGON. Billy was a dedicated, friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful teammate for all of the members of our team.
He became a good friend of mine immediately and we had a common bond of hockey and living in the Northern areas of Canada and Northern Minnesota.
Billy was a kind and friendly soul...he will never be forgotten by all of the lucky people like me that were blessed to have crossed his path in this world.

So sorry to hear about Bill's passing. Our condolences to you, Mary Jane and family. I have some good memories of Bill and some of our cousins, when we were kids, visiting, playing and swimming in the river at our Uncle's farm in Quebec. We are so glad we got to visit with Bill, Mary Jane and girls years ago when we visited Florida. During our phone calls, Bill always talked about his children and grandchildren. We will talk to you, Mary Jane, at a later date. God bless all of you. I am sure you have many good memories to get you through this time.

Gone From My Sight
I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side,
spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength.
I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck
of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other.
Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone."
Gone where?
Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast,
hull and spar as she was when she left my side.
And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port.
Her diminished size is in me -- not in her.
And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone,"
there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
And that is dying...
WE LOVE YOU BILLY - REST IN PEACE AND KEEP YOUR STICK ON THE ICE!

The Angelus will always remember Billy and his family. He came every week with Mary Jane, Janelle and Jennie to volunteer, spending time with our handicapped children. Bear, Missy, Nicole, Jimmy, Tracey were all in wheelchairs and looked forward to their visits. Billy also served on our Board of Directors and helped guide us in our formative years. He spent a lot of time with Bear, taking him for rides and bringing back milk shakes for our 12 residents. He organized a golfing fundraiser for our benefit and always advocated for our cause. There surely is a place for him in heaven. God bless the Smith family. Pauline Shaver, President

Uncle Billy, dearest God-father. We are devastated by this sudden loss. I know you are watching over us and we find comfort by remembering your contagious laugh, your open and generous heart, your compassion for those in the community who are vulnerable. We will remember our trips to Florida to see you (and family) and will never forget our times at the pier, the track, eating grouper by the water or watching spring training in the fields, observing osprey and fresh orange juice. I bought a photo of a pelican at a pier to remind me of you daily and will forever tell your story of what you said in French when they dropped the puck. Hilarious! You were a gift and a blessing and will be greatly missed. Éternellement dans nos coeurs. Nancy, Marc, Chelsea, Maria and Mac xoxo
