Obituary of Michael Phythian
Michael J. Phythian AKA “Big Mike” or “Phithy” to others, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away April 26, 2021 at the age of 54. Born in Bremerhaven, Germany, Michael soon moved to Florida with his family, graduating from Boca Ciega High. Michael had a larger than life personality that helped him transition into his lifelong career in the hospitality industry. Mike went on to work for many local bars over the years, including; Clancy’s, Bongo’s, Gumbo’s, and more recently, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club. His personality really blossomed working in the local bars, as he was always a prankster and could tell you a joke at the drop of a hat. Big Mike was loved by so many, not just his family, but his customers he served as well. He also loved many things in his life, enjoying traveling in his down time, his dogs, cooking, music and going to concerts, and spending time with his friends on the river. He had the unique ability to make everyone feel special, whether it was with his wicked sense of humor, personability, or just simply with his company. Michael was a loyal friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be announced in the following weeks.
