Obituary of Peggy Nolan

Margaret “Peggy” Louise Nolan, 89 years young, of St Petersburg Florida, passed away at home on Wednesday May 5, 2021.  She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend to many.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard “Dick” Anthony Nolan.  She is survived by her children Kathy (Jack), Patricia (David), Michael (Laurie), Barbara (Michael), Bill (Deborah),  Laura (Jay), and sister Ann (Bill), 15 grands, six great grands and many nieces and nephews.

Peggy graduated from the University of Miami with a degree in Education.  She met Dick while working as a teacher in Washington DC.  The Air Force pilot swept her off on a lifetime adventure with a shared love of faith, family and travel.  Six children in tow, she orchestrated family camping adventures and road trips throughout Europe, Asia and North America. After retirement, Peggy and Dick continued their travels doing research for her novels and family genealogy.

Peggy was a lover of words.  She read voraciously and published young adult literature.  She was quick with a puzzle, cutthroat with Mahjong, insightful with book club, detailed with note taking, and thoughtful with her advice. The grandchildren considered her an expert on all things and would often say “Grandma knows”.  She chose her words carefully and spoke with kindness.  Her fervent wish was for all of us to take the time to speak kindly to others and help lift others up along life’s journey.

We will treasure our memories with Peggy, but if those memories ever fade, we can turn to her words. Through her writing, Peggy preserved another side of herself. A side filled with depth and beauty and an interior world of great complexity.

She witnessed the world with such passion and detail. Her writing is a blessing and a joy that will only grow with time. These written memories will not fade. These words will be revisited and read with the passion that first brought them from her mind to pen to paper.

It is through her writing that her voice will live on. And we will cherish that voice forever.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 from 5pm - 7pm at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home with funeral mass on Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 10am at St. Raphael's Catholic Church
