Obituary of Robert Julian LeMay Sr.

Robert Julian LeMay Sr., age 94, passed away on July 19, 2021 in St. Petersburg, FL. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jane LeMay, his daughter Jo Ellen Massey, and grandson, William Harold “Harry” Cloud.  He is survived by his son Robert “Bob” Julian LeMay, Jr.; his grandchildren, Christopher Cloud (Amanda), Zachary LeMay (Amber), and Benjamin LeMay (Alexis); and his great grandchildren, Calyn Cloud and Jo Ellen Cloud.  Robert was born July 1, 1927 (the 2nd to the youngest of seven children) in Memphis, TN.  He grew up during the Great Depression and often shared his stories of having little to eat and seldom having shoes.  Robert served proudly in the Army during WWII and Navy during Korea as a mapmaker. Robert worked for M, L, G, & W company in Memphis for 50+ years.  When he retired, he moved to St. Petersburg, FL where he went to work for Florida Power and retired from there as well.  During his time there Robert also earned his BA Degree.  Robert had a strong work ethic but also enjoyed many indoor and outdoor activities such as fishing, baseball, archery, shooting, bowling, pool, and carpentry.  He also loved poetry….Robert Frost being one of his favorites.  He also enjoyed writing in Old English lettering by hand and was a member of Toastmasters. Robert engaged life head on and was not afraid of taking risks.  One of his biggest accomplishments was the years he spent researching the family name and publishing a book about his findings.  A graveside service was held on July 24, 2021 at Sunnyside Cemetery.
