Obituary of Joyce Hilarie Nosworthy

Joyce Hilarie Nosworthy, 92, of St. Petersburg, FL passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2021.

Joyce was born on December 14, 1928 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. She married Wesley Nosworthy on January 31, 1951 and after emigrating to the United States resided in Queens, NY where she raised four children. Joyce was an ESL teacher for 20 years at Jamaica High School in NYC.  Upon retirement in 1990, Joyce and Wesley relocated to St. Petersburg, FL.  Her passion for assisting youth in need led her to a second career as a caseworker at Healthy Families of Pinellas County. She was fondly known as “Miss Joyce” by the many whose lives she enriched. She loved to do crossword puzzles, read and was an avid gardener. 

Joyce is predeceased by her beloved husband of 52 years, Wesley, son Winston, and daughter Sandra. She is survived by son Robert, daughter Marsha and five grandchildren: Tarie, James III, Kashmir, Morgan, Jordan and great-grandson, Cayden. 

A committal and memorial service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 1:30pm at Bay Pines National Cemetery
