Obituary of Thomas J. Burns

Tom was a loving father and fun-loving family man that was selfless and always willing to help others in need. He died August 23. 2021 at C. W. Bill Young VA Medical Center in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 93 years old.

Born and Raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to William and Mary Burns. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1956. Tom was a family man from the beginning to the end. He was also part of the greatest generation, a U.S. Navy, WW II Combat Veteran and Victory Medal holder. He will be buried with military honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery.

He was a Private Pilot and enjoyed flying his plane throughout Florida. Tom was also a Class “A” General Contractor that built everything from single family residences to large scale commercial projects. In earlier years he was a Senior Electronics Engineer specializing in radar, guidance and electronic communications systems with Electronic Communications Inc.(ECI) in St. Petersburg. He had a life long passion for playing golf.

Tom is preceded in death by his Parents William (Mary) Burns, Brother William (Emma) Burns. He is survived by the following Children (8): Kathleen (Kenneth) Neumann, Patricia (Jim) Zurbrick, Thomas (Lisa) Burns, William (Wendy) Burns, Mary Burns, Sarina (Eric) Gates, Rosemary (Marek) Burns and Timothy Burns. Grandchildren (19): Jason (Christine) Diviki, Kelly (Barry) White, Carrie Mixon, Sarah (Bryan) Gwozdz, Kenneth (Mariana) Neumann, Thomas (Jennifer)Neumann, Zachary Neumann, Gabrielle Neumann, Donald (Mandy) Zurbrick, Thomas (Marissa) Burns, Aim’ee (Savannah) Burns, Joseph Burns, Anna Burns, William Burns, Tanyelle Burns, Austin Gates, Abigail Gates, Amelia Gates, Vivian Burns. Great Grandchildren (13): Daniel (Christine) Brockstedt, Donson Brockstedt, Anastasia Brockstedt, Dylan Brockstedt, Mathew Mixon, Maci Mixon, Adam Gwozdz, Lea Neumann, Luna Neumann, Shelby Rollins, Natalie Burns, Siena Burns, Lillian Brownlee. Great Great Grandchildren (3): Braylen Rollins, Madelyn Brockstedt, Landon Brockstedt.
