Obituary of Loren Clifford White, Jr
Cliff joined his father at Clark & White, Inc. the Lincoln-Mercury dealership on Commonwealth Avenue in Boston. He was recognized by Ford Motor Company as a 50-year dealer, served on LMDA advertising committees, and won the prestigious President’s Award many times. He enjoyed the frequent travel award trips. The dealership moved to West Newton in 1980 and sold in 2003.
Cliff was a risk taker in business. He signed on to market Bricklin motor cars and was an early investor in cellular phones. He owned and operated fifteen Budget Car Rental agencies in the Boston area. Additionally, he owned the Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Concord, NH.
Cliff was a life member of the Algonquin Club of Boston, National Automobile Dealers Association, St. Petersburg Yacht Club, and Olave-Baden Powell Society.
He is survived by his wife Diane of 57 years and two daughters, Jenifer Walden (fiancé Stephen Bommer) of Franklin Lakes, NJ and Sally Eastman of Bolton, MA. Grandchildren Loren and Lindsey Walden and Jake and Abigail Eastman. He leaves his sister, Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Jameson of Falmouth MA and bother-in-law, Malcolm W. Fuhrer III of California.
Cliff was infectiously optimistic—always wonderful! He enjoyed reading newspapers, investing in the stock market, landscaping projects, and football games. He and Diane traveled to all seven continents including many wine tours.
