Obituary of Shirley Marie Bernfeld

BERNFELD, Shirley Marie of St. Petersburg entered eternal life on 11/18/2021.  Shirley was born in Lancaster, NY on December 5, 1927, the eldest daughter of Franklin (Honey) and Mildred (Carlson) Girardin.  She attended and graduated from Lancaster HS where she participated in many activities including sports and year book committee.  After living several years in Lancaster raising her two children, she and husband Joseph moved to Elma, NY.  Later, they both retired to Florida.

Shirley enjoyed many crafts and homemaking activities. Most notable were her knitted sweaters created and given to her family and friends. Plus, many delicious creations came out of her kitchen.  She also translated books into braille for the blind and for several years served as a Brownie scout leader.  She was an avid sports fan, especially of the Buffalo Bills and Boston Red Socks. But most of all, she was always quick to help and support not only family, but many friends when needed.

Surviving is her sister, Marie (NV), children David (Patricia) (FL) and Susan (Robert) (NY).  Four grandchildren; Christopher (Kim), Matthew (Angelina), Daniel (Brandi), and Jennifer (Jeremy); five great grandchildren; Katie, Ryan, Nicholas, Christian, and Owen, plus many nieces and nephews. Shirley is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph, sisters Betty and Joyce, and good friends, Agnes, Kay, & Phyllis.

The family will miss her dearly but cherish the wonderful memories.  A celebration of Shirley’s long life will be held at a future date.
