Carlos Ramirez-Brouwer

Obituary of Carlos Arturo Ramirez-Brouwer

On Sunday, December 19, 2021, Carlos Arturo Ramirez-Brouwer, devoted husband and loving father of four, unexpectedly left us at the age of 78.

The youngest of three sons, Carlitos was born in Havana, Cuba to Arturo and Elisa Ramirez.  While still a teenager, his family was compelled to leave their beloved Cuba. Carlos helped to support the family by playing conga drums in bands at various nightclubs and venues in Spain.  It was during this time he was able to travel extensively with his dear great uncle Ernesto Lecuona. He learned a great deal from the experience and always spoke fondly of his treasured memories of that time together.

Soon after, he came to Florida with his brother Edgardo to finish his schooling.  Carlos and his family then moved to New York City where he would meet and then marry, the love of his life, Lydia and become the proud father of four.

New York is also where he would begin his career with Marriott\Host that would last over 30 years and take him across the country. Carlos would ultimately retire from Host to pursue his dream of owning a business—the unique, well-reviewed and supremely cool Martini Monkey Lounge in San Jose, California.

And when the time came for Carlos to finally settle in for good; a charming, sunny spot his wife found in St. Pete felt like their own little piece of paradise—complete with a resident mailbox frog, napping lizards on the windowsill and visiting flocks of spindly- legged egrets.

Carlos is survived by his wife of 53 years, son Carlos, two daughters Alicia and Kristina, five grandchildren Elizabeth, Mason, Josephine, Rhys and Chloe, brother Arturo, godchildren Sophia and Marco, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
