Obituary of Charles Dickens
Dickens, Charles E. “Charlie”, of St Petersburg, Florida ‘slipped the surly bonds of earth’ on January 22nd, 2022 at his home, and now ‘dances on skies with laughter-silvered wings.’ He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert P. and Mary L. Dickens and his brother John P. Dickens. Charlie’s 83 years have been defined by faithfulness to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his country, his ever- expanding family and his community. Born on 16 November 1938 in Dover Delaware, he spent his youth in beach combing and Boy Scouting until he graduated from Granby High School in Norfolk, Virginia. He transitioned to a career as an Air Force officer and pilot, and went further on to a second career as an insurance professional. Through his endeavors, he attained Eagle Scout rank, piloted the mighty B-52, earned decorations for wartime valor and obtained the rank of Major in the Air Force Reserves. He is also a graduate of New Hampshire College and Liberty University. Charlie filled his later years with service through the Boy Scouts as a leader and counsellor, as well as 15 years’ service as a Sunday School teacher for Swift Creek Baptist Church in Midlothian, Virginia. A beloved husband of Patricia for more than 62 years; a dedicated father of 3 sons, Charles, James and Christopher; a gentle grandfather of 7; and an adoring great-grandfather of 2; Charlie leaves these and all their loved ones behind to celebrate his glorious passing together. Charlie’s memorial service will begin at 12 pm Saturday, January 29, 2022 with informal viewing beginning at 11:30. This service will take place at Anderson McQueen Funeral Home, 2201 Doctor Martin Luther King Junior St N, St. Petersburg, FL 33704.
