I especially remember singing in the choir at St Peters in the mid 1950’s with Mary Lee in the alto section. She was always kind of quiet and demure, but I also remember that when some perceived injustice occurred she could be quite irascible and verbal. They had the sweetest and cutest little blond daughter, Mari. Betty and I had dinner with Mary Lee and Bob a few years ago when he was starting to really slow down. We were starting to leave and she was tired and said she wanted to go to bed. He wanted her to stay up and keep him company. We left before this was resolved, but I suspect she went to bed. Rest well, dear friend.

I visited Mary Lee regularly and we would have “fireside chats” with a small(ish) glass of her favourite tipple, sherry. She had a wonderful way with her words with the occasional wry smile. And when she smiled that big smile of hers, it lit up the room. No matter how Mary Lee may have felt she always remained cheerful, with an optimistic tone. I was at Mary Lee’s side with Mari when she slipped peacefully away.
