Obituary of Betty M Hobbs

Hobbs, Betty M. passed away February 26th, 2022, at the age of 96, surrounded by her family. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Marvin L and Edith McKinney, her husband USAF Major James A Hobbs, her son David J Hobbs and foster son, Stephen K James. Betty was born in St. Petersburg, August 3rd, 1925. She graduated from St. Petersburg High School and then secretarial school. She was employed as a Secretary to the President of First National Bank. After her youngest child was in junior high school, she worked as a Legal Secretary until taking early retirement to travel with her husband in their RV. As a young woman, Betty began volunteering as a member of the Bomb-A-Dears during WW2. Her volunteering later included being a Cub Scout Den Mother, a PTA member, and illustrating school newsletters and menus for Mt. Vernon Elementary. She sewed doll clothes for the Christmas Toy Shop and also did office work for the Arthritis Foundation and Alpha House. Betty was an excellent seamstress like her mother, making dance costumes, clothing, draperies, and slipcovers. Betty loved her family and her home. She is survived by her children Richard (Jackie), Nancy H Randall and James G Hobbs, 4 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who will greatly miss her. Services will be held at Anderson McQueen Funeral Homes and  Betty will be buried at SunnySide Cemetery.
