While I was too young to know him well, he always seemed a gentleman and was consistently kind to us loud kids. That great video and photo collage would prove that point. He will be missed, but he'll certainly live on through his family. I hope all are doing great! God rest his soul.

I was very saddened to learn of Fred's passing. I met Fred about 30 years ago. We both did early morning workouts at a gym in downtown St. Pete. He was a runner. I was a wannabe. A small group of us would run through downtown St Pete in the early morning hours and I was always the one holding up the rear. Fred would encourage me to keep going and not to stop. Sometimes he said something funny, sometimes he shamed me into it but I kept running. Eventually, I was able to keep up with him and the rest of the group. I credit Fred with helping me find running, a true passion that has gotten me through a lot of tough times in my life, and continues to. From time to time, I would see Fred at an event or around the Vinoy. When I told him I had run 18 marathons and countless other races he was shocked! When I told him it was all because of his encouragement he seemed really happy.
My sincere condolences to Monika and the family. Fred always talked so lovingly about his family and I remember that 30+ years later. Thanks Coach Fred for igniting the spirit of running in me. May you rest in peace.

I’m thinking of you guys every day. My favorite memory of Uncle Fred was his meticulous carving of the Christmas goose every year in spite of the egg nog and champagne consumption. I also remember just about every home Bucs game, Uncle Fred was always there at the tailgate party, making everyone laugh. Finally, I always thought it was pretty darn cool he could fly his own plane. We will miss you, Uncle Fred.
