Harriett Sackett

Obituary of Harriett Houck Sackett

Harriett Houck Sackett passed away peacefully in the evening hours of May 5th, 2022, just days after meeting her first great-great grandchild. She is survived by her son, Robert Houck Sackett (Sue), daughter Carol Sackett Paton (Al), 5 grandchildren (Holly, Heidi, Jacci, Matthew and Heather), 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Harriett was predeceased by her husband Robert Sackett in 2014 and grandson, Robert Sackett Paton in 2009. Born August 26, 1923 in Wayne, N.Y. to Harry and Carrie Houck, she married her childhood sweetheart, Robert Sackett, in 1943. After high school, Harriett graduated from Rochester Business Institute and worked for the next 42 years as a secretary and bookkeeper, the last 22 of those years with the Pinellas County School system, specifically Meadowlawn Middle School. Harriett sang in the choir at Christ Methodist Church from 1958-1963 and Pasadena Community Church from 1963-1989 and was a well-respected piano teacher for several years before moving to St. Petersburg. Harriett also loved sports and spent many wonderful hours watching the Tampa Bay Rays. At 98 years old, she would always make sure she had the correct information on the time and channel for the games. Harriett and Bob enjoyed many years of traveling around the country in their motor homes, and also loved to take cruises. The most memorable was a trip to the Holy Lands where they renewed their wedding vows at Cana on their 55th anniversary. For the past 18 years she lived at Lake Seminole Square with the love of her life, Bob, until his passing 8 years ago. Harriett was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. She will be truly missed. An internment service is planned for both Robert and Harriett in their hometown of Dundee, N.Y. in mid-October.
