Hey Nese,
As we get ready to celebrate your life here in Cincinnati, I sat down and listened to "Land of Milk and Honey". I marvel at how much more beautiful your voice had become with time since we last sang together. I treasure the many times of sharing those gifts from God. I always enjoyed hearing you sing and play. My favorite song you did was "Since You've Asked" by Judy
Collins. I especially remember our disco dancing back in the 1970s. You were always my favorite dance partner! LOL!
Wow! Doesn't it always seem the smallest and the silliest things are what we remember and cherish?
Rest in Jesus my Friend

Nese was a rainbow of demeanors and dimensions. Her sweet innocence, combined with her rowdy, sometimes bawdy sense of humor, made for lot of laughter whenever we were together. And our shared sense of adventure led us into many, many unexpected and uncharted experiences. Nese was deeply spiritual, but not in a holier-than-thou way. She had a nuanced understanding of the divine, that came out most clearly in her music. Her music! Every song she wrote surprised me with its depth, its wisdom, its layered beauty—or its crazy comedy. I loved harmonizing together, and we shared many, many hours of singing and playing and experimenting with new sounds in long, lazy afternoons or late into the night. I was blessed to have been roommates with Nese in beautiful Mill Valley, California in the 80s and to have shared a friendship that lasted through the years, through good times and hard times, but always returning to the base of love that we had for each other. The cruelest thing about this disease was that it took her voice—that rich, full voice that I loved to listen to and make harmonies with. There is so much sadness in her passing—my heart is breaking for her dear mom and sisters who cared for her so selflessly, and for her brothers, and extended family and scores of friends. But there is also joy in the passing into spirit of a soul so sweet, so open-hearted, so uniquely Denise, to become one with All That Is. I miss her like crazy. But I will always have her in my heart and cherish the richness she brought to my life. And I will always be grateful to have been loved by her. Rest in peace, Nese. I love you like all the Grateful Dead concerts rolled into one—more than words can tell.

To the entire Leigh Family,
Thank you, Thank you for bringing such a loving, peaceful soul into this world. As I think of my life with Nese, I am reminded of what a light she brought to others. Her voice and presence of mind is what initially rooting me in California. She was one of the first people I met when I moved here. Her laughter, her love of friends and family, her beautiful strong voice and sweet sound made me realized I had made this journey to experience more to life then what I had known. As a true friend, she would always be there with wisdom, compassion and a smile in her eyes. We've danced, we've laughed, we've cried together. Her gratitude for love, nature and spirituality were ever present in her life. She shared so much of herself with so many, I hope she carried those memories along in her journey.
Thank you so much for caretaking her soul as her journey progressed. She was always and will always be in our hearts. May her loving energy and music carry us on forever! I know she now knows peace. Blessings to you all. Love, Linda

my mind from 50+ years ago of happy times with the Leigh and Elsener families. What a GIFT you are, Nese.

Denise was one of the first people I met when I moved to Florida 4 years ago. She was the first client I worked with. From the moment I met her I knew I had made a wonderful new friend with a beautiful soul. She was so warm and welcoming. She was one of the reasons which made it easy for me to decide to stay in FL. Working with her was the biggest pleasure. I enjoyed all the little things I did with Denise. Helping her take care of her butterfly garden. Planting milkweed for her. She adored her monarch butterflies. To this very moment if I see one she instantly comes to mind. Feeding the birds. Jeez I absolutely HATED the smell of sardines but it made Nese so happy to feed the birds everyday. So the smell never bothered me. We had names for all them. So many memories, so many good times. She welcomed me into her life with open arms. Her love for music, her stories shed tell me, every little thing about Nese was just pleasant. She was always so happy and seen the brighter side of everything. Even on her off days Denise filled my life with so much joy. There wasnt ONE day I wasnt excited to go see her. She became like family to me. She was always a listening ear. She helped me with some tough decisions I faced. She really was an angel to me. Words cannot ever express how thankful I am that I met Nese. Ill carry her in my heart for the rest of my life. The positive impact she had in my life. She had a heart of gold. Shes just someone you could never forget. Heaven truly gained an amazing angel. My heartfelt condolences go out to the Leighs, you all also became such a huge part of my life in Florida. Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers. Love Lauren

Denise worked at Marin Academy in San Rafael, California in the early 1990s as the school's registrar; she was also the administrative assistant to the assistant principal and the college counselor. It was a mountain of work to manage and yet Denise did all of it with incredible speed, accuracy, and grace. Her answer was always "yes" and that was really important to me as a young professional. She quickly forgave my mistakes, just as she shared quickly shared a laugh. She was a member of the school's faculty band, adding her rich voice and generous spirit. I'm so glad that we stayed in touch after she left the school and I miss her so much. Derek

Oh Nese I treasure our time together. How lucky we were to grow up next door to each other. You and I both loved animals so much. We talked about that a lot. We were both kind of weird as well. LOL When were were maybe 12 (and 11) we decided we wanted to be blood sisters so we each picked a scab (probably old mosquito bites) and pressed our legs together so we would be forever blood sisters. I hope you are at peace and I have no doubt you were greeted by your dad with arms wide open. Much love to Aunt Dee and all my cousins.

Every time I was around you and the family it always ended with a smile on every ones face while you played guitar and everyone sang along. Thank you for the countless guitar lessons and memories.
