Max was a good friend for 20 years. We played poker, went to Titan games, saw the Music City Miracle sitting next to each other, and were neighbors in two different neighborhoods. Our poker group met once a month, and we changed some of the typical games to make them more challenging and "confusing". With these changes came mistakes and lots of laughter. We'll all miss Max's dry wit because he made us laugh a lot!
Good-bye Good Friend and God Bless !

Bob Maier got it right. Max had a wonderful dry sense of humor, and he used it in a way that defused certain situations without dealing hurt to anyone or any group. We had seven in our poker group, and Max always had the final comment summarizing our discussions in a way to make each of us happy with whatever nonsense we had presented. Max was also my long-time Duplicate Bridge partner, and no one could have had a better partner. He was easily the best player in a very experienced group, and I always felt that he was one "trick" better than the cards deserved. Bright, quick, fun, a great friend. Mary and I have missed him since he left Brentwood, but cherished so many good memories. Our condolences to his family, and to all who knew him.

This is a very nice and accurate tribute for Max. I had the pleasure of working for him at Saturn from 1999 until he retired. He was always a great teacher, and when presented with a financial or logistical solution, was known for saying "numbers confuse me." They didn't, but that was his way of saying "just talk to me." I will always remember his kindness and leadership. Rest in peace, my friend.

Max is a dear friend who would do anything for his friends and family. I played poker with him and several others for almost 20 years in Brentwood. Max had the best sense of humor and could always ease the tension when appropriate or necessary. His favorite sayings were legendary and included “there’s no whining in poker”. God bless Max and God speed. Love you Max!

Ahh, Max. When I showed up in Philly as his new Metro DM, he recognized instantly that I needed some help. He rolled up his sleeves and made a "car guy" out of me. He taught me great "Max-isms," some of which I still use to this day: "Wait for the right minute, then go sideways down their throats," "If they don't treat you right, don't be afraid to just walk away," and many, many more. He found great delight that I had a sister named Mary (as I am!) and asked if our other sister would greet people with, "I'm Barb. This is my sister Mary and my other sister Mary." (Apologies to Bob Newhart.) I had the pleasure of watching the '84 Bad Boys take the series at Max and Dianne's. He truly WAS one of a kind. My sincerest condolences to his family and all who loved him.

I've been at GM for well over 30 years. I've had many bosses in that time. My two favorites were on the same Team at Saturn, Max Hurst and Larry Schmid. While I fell out of touch with Max after they shut down Saturn, I ran into Larry from time to time in the Ren-cen. I would always ask if he had heard from Max and if he had, he would often say, "Max asked how you were doing." I never had a better assignment and I never had better bosses than those two.
My condolences to the family. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
They don't make 'em like Max anymore. He was one of a kind and truly a class act.
