Obituary of Kenneth Maxwell Hurst

Kenneth Maxwell "Max" Hurst, 77, of St. Petersburg, Florida passed away August 21, 2022. Born on July 8, 1945 in Hillsboro, Texas. Max earned his Master's degree in Mathematics while working for General Motors. His career with that company began in the mail room and ended with an Executive position at Saturn in Nashville, Tennessee. He knew the car industry like a Professor or Physician knows their field and was passionate about the industry.

Fellow workers expressed amazement at how he could glance at a spreadsheet and know its accuracy or error. Many referred to him as "brilliant" when it came to the many aspects if the industry. It was said, "He was the straightest of arrows." Many women were hesitant to work with him but came to adore and appreciate the many opportunities that expanded their careers through his guidance. He prided himself on being able to recognize talent in the industry and in sports.

He loved sports, particularly Baseball. Favorite family "Maxism's" were "feet on the floor, walk it off you sissy, happy Friday-oops it's Thursday," all said with deep affection. His love of baseball led ti a hobby of refurbishing old baseball gloves to give to youngsters other than his own. Grandfather clocks were his gift of choice to those special in his life; a few rolex watches too.

Upon retiring he began a second career as in Instructor at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, guiding musical talent through the labyrinth of understanding the importance money management. Words he expressed to his companion of ten years were "I think I did what I could. I think I sang some, I think I held my hand out.

Max is preceded in death by his wife Diane of 49 years. He leaves to cherish his memories; his children, Mark, Leslie (Malone), William (Bill/Billy), and Steve.

There will be a private family mass at St. Mary's Our Lady of Grace, Friday, August 26, 2022 at 10 A.M.
