Obituary of Lynn C Cox

COX, Lynn Curry, devoted wife, mother, grandmother and community volunteer, passed away Sept. 3, 2022, after a brief illness. A St. Petersburg native, she was born on Aug. 12, 1952, in Mound Park Hospital, a daughter of George B. “Mac” Curry Jr., and Ann Beach Curry.

Lynn was renowned for her elegant taste, style and sense of humor. She was a consummate hostess who enjoyed entertaining and loved a good party. She also had a passion for animals, especially dogs. Lynn devoted much of her life to public service, volunteering in numerous roles at Shorecrest Preparatory School; Meals on Wheels; the Junior League of St. Petersburg; the Society of St. Vincent de Paul; the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg, and its Margaret Acheson Stuart Society; Christmas Belles; St. Anthony’s Hospital Gift Shop; Daughters of the American Revolution; the advisory board of Bay magazine; and St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, where she was a lifelong member and worked in the nursery, altar guild and Vacation Bible School.

She attended Northeast High School; Brenau Academy, Gainesville, Ga.; and St. Mary’s Dominican College and Tulane University, New Orleans. She and her husband, David Stephen Cox, met in New Orleans while she was studying for a master’s degree in guidance and counseling and working at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. They married in 1977.

Lynn was predeceased by her parents; her mother-in-law, Beryl Oswald Cox; and a sister, Leslie Ann Curry. Survivors include her husband, David; their daughter, Lindsay Cox Ryscavage (Andrew), of Bethesda, Md.; their son, David Stephen Cox Jr. (Jean-Philippe El Khoury), of Tampa; her sisters Elizabeth Curry of St. Petersburg and Diana Shuster of McLeansboro, IL; her grandchildren, Cían Curry Patrick Ryscavage and Emmeline Lily Elizabeth Ryscavage, of Bethesda; and extended family, Iris Salzer, of St. Petersburg.

A funeral will take place at 11am on Oct. 8, 2022 at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, 1200 Snell Isle Blvd. NE, St. Petersburg, with a reception afterward. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Suncoast Hospice Foundation, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd., Clearwater, or St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes is serving the family.
