Obituary of Donna Lou DeJohn
Donna L. DeJohn, 89, a full time resident of St. Petersburg, passed away peacefully, Sepember 17, 2022 while visiting the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. She was born in Syracuse, New York and raised her family in Western New York. She is preceded in death by her parents Kathleen and Raymond Lavern Wilson, her brother, Gary and her son Fred, Jr.
Donna is survived by Frederick, her husband of 68 years, daughter Phyllis (Bill Macdonald), sons Doug and David (Tracy), granddaughter, Georgianna and her brother, Bud. She loved her family dearly and was a best friend to her husband and to each of her kids.
Donna and Fred spent their retirement years filled with adventure. They split their time yearly between two cottages...one in Hendersonville North Carolina and one in Crescent Heights in St. Petersburg. During their time in the mountains, hiking and golfing were two of her favorite activities.
In fact, she played with the womens "Swingers" golf league for over 15 years. During many afternoons she would practice her skills at painting with watercolors and pastels and would occasionally exhibit her work. She definitely had a creative flare, whether it was art, interior design or fashion.
During the other half of the year in St. Pete's, she thoroughly enjoyed the Florida sunshine and all that paradise has to offer. Donna and Fred would attend most anything at the Mahaffey theater, including the Thursday Coffee Concerts and she especially loved their Pops performances. Regularly attending senior classes at Eckerd College kept her curious and enlightened. Donna also worked as a volunteer at St. Anthony's hospital for years as well as assisting with Meals on Wheels. All the while, she was an avid reader and at one time held a library card in three states! She was funny and she loved to laugh. Her enthusiasm for life was infectious. Donna lived a vibrant and happy life. She dealt with life's ups and downs with grace and came out the other side with a smile that lit up every room.
