Obituary of Ann Albert

Ann Jackson Albert lost her courageous battle to brain cancer on October 17, 2022, at home surrounded by her family in Saint Petersburg Florida. She is survived by her husband of 38 years Jim Albert, her daughters Emily Goldman and Laura Duckworth, sons-in-law Eric Goldman and Chris Duckworth, and three young grandchildren, as well as a broad network of extended family and friends everywhere.

Ann was born in Midland Texas in 1960 to Waldo and Emily Jackson, and then lived in Norman Oklahoma and Dallas Texas while growing up. She attended Vanderbilt University, attaining a computer science degree. After graduation, she and Jim married, started and raised a family, and moved 12 times in the US and UK. In 2012 they settled in St Petersburg.

Her family was her world, and she made no compromises as a mother as she and Jim raised their daughters. Her laugh, smile, and optimistic attitude would light up the day of her friends and family. In addition to her excellence as a computer programmer and engineer, she had a broad range of interests. She loved sailing her Sunfish with the Dinghy Dames in Tampa, swam early morning Masters swimming for years, was an active volunteer with the Childrens Home Society and Therapy Dogs International, hiked all over the world, and, closer to home, loved early morning sunrise paddle boarding around Bird Island in Coffee Pot Bayou. She loved live music, dancing, and international travel. She raised many golden retrievers, ultimately training two to be a part of the therapy dog program at All Children's Hospital. She was a truly beautiful person with a beautiful, compelling personality who will be dearly missed.

In August 2021, with no prior warning, she was diagnosed with the worst form of brain cancer, a grade 4 glioblastoma. She and Jim exhausted all options in both the US and Europe to treat the aggressive cancer, however ultimately the cancer overran the ability of the treatments to counter its spread.

She will be remembered by her warm laugh, unconditional love, listening ear, and beautiful smile. She was always there for her friends and family. She loved to travel and would fly across the globe to visit her children or to explore "off the beaten path" destinations with Jim.
