Clifton Camp Jr.

Obituary of Clifton Durrett Camp Jr.

Camp, Jr., Clifton Durrett, 95, of St. Petersburg passed away January 30, 2023 at home in the loving care of his family. Cliff was born and raised in Kentucky where he met and married Jane, his high school sweetheart and wife of 71 years. He was a wonderful father to 4 adopted children: Dan, Tom, Pam & Emily, and several grandchildren. Cliff was a Navy veteran who went on to enjoy a successful career with the Times Publishing Company (St. Petersburg Times, Evening Independent, Florida Trend & more), retiring in 1988 as Senior Vice President. For a short period, he was also the owner of the Sumter County Times. His love of Western lore led him to his hobby as a Rancher, raising beef cattle on nearly 1,000 acres of land in central Florida. He loved to entertain family and friends by telling jokes and stories, but nothing was more entertaining than when his wife and kids pushed his buttons and waited for the hilarious barrage of expletives and well-placed zingers to ensue. He was a good man, an even better listener and a sage advisor. His unwavering positive attitude made the impossible seem possible. He simply wanted everyone to be their best and encouraged them to want that for themselves through diligence and determination.

He was honest, he was admired, he is loved. Cliff’s graveside service will be Monday, February 6, 2023 10:30am at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.

As Cliff was a long-time supporter of University of the Cumberlands, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to: University of the Cumberlands6178 College Station Drive, Williamsburg, KY 40769.
