Obituary of Kevin Charles Gabberty

Kevin Charles Gabberty, 65, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2023, with his best friend and wife Sherri, and beloved friends by his side. Kevin was born on December 20th, 1957 in Herkimer, NY to Laurie and Chuck Gabberty. They moved to St. Petersburg Florida in 1967.

Kevin graduated from St. Petersburg High School in 1976, where he participated in track (holding a school record) Football, and was a founding member of the St. Pete High Soccer team. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College. He was a Sheetmetal Journeyman and worked for the Pinellas County School Board for 38 years.

Kevin met his future wife Sherri Uecker in 1992. He convinced her to move to Florida, from her native home in Houston, Texas by bringing her a glass of fresh orange juice from his backyard trees, and a boat ride with dolphins splashing all around. They were married in November of

1993. They enjoyed traveling to Jamaica, New Orleans, Las Vegas, Niagara Falls, Savannah, Alaska and most of all Hanalei Bay, Kauai.

Kevin loved the beach, and hitchhiked to the beach during high school. He lived on the beach with three female friends before saving to buy his first home. Early in their marriage Kevin and Sherri purchased their dream home in the old southeast neighborhood in St. Petersburg, FL.

They spent their time renovating and restoring their 1925 home.

Kevin loved camping, listening to music and attending concerts. While the couple never had children, Kevin was known as "Uncle Stymie" to the children of numerous friends. Kevin had a special relationship with fire hydrants, traffic signs and the Grand Prix. He was a Twenty plus year colon cancer survivor.

He is survived by his loving wife Sherri; his aunt and uncle Colleen and Bob Schultz (lion, NY); cousins Alan Nasypeny (Herkimer, NY), Cynthia Hall Nasypeny (North Carolina), and Cassie March (New Jersey); brother and sister in-law Alan and Jill Uecker (San Antonio, TX); nieces Meghan Uecker (Youngsville, LA) and Rachel Uecker (Central, SC); as well numerous loving friends that will never forget this very unique man.
