Obituary of Margie Schwartz

Marjory (“Margie”) Reed Schwartz, 81, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died peacefully on April 18, 2023, after a short illness. Marjory was born Sept. 18, 1941, in Ithaca, N.Y., to the late Colonel James P. and Marion Schwartz. She moved to St. Petersburg at a young age and was a talented saxophone and piano player. She played in the Northeast High School marching band in St. Petersburg, as well as in a 1950s band while in high school.

Marjory holds bachelor’s degrees in business administration and broadcasting from the University of Florida. She was skilled at audio and video editing, scriptwriting and directing, broadcast advertising, audio, radio and television production, still photography and cinematography, and press law. She worked for WEDU Channel 3 in Tampa, General Telephone Company of Florida in Public Affairs, the Color Television Center and Information Theatre in Tampa, and was a marketing writer and secretary for Harvard Jolly architects. She also produced and directed instructional TV programs for schools, PBS community interest programs, as well as directed live programming for annual on-air auctions for the TV station WEDU.

Her affiliations included Kappa Tau Alpha, Alpha Epsilon Rho, Phi Chi Theta, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Alpha Gamma Delta as well as American Women in Radio and Television.

Marjory was a loving caregiver to her parents for many years.

She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jim and sister-in-law Susan, and her brother-in-law Robert F. Chambers.

Survivors include her sister Virginia (“Ginny”) Chambers of Seminole, her niece Margaret, husband Bill, and family of Elyria, Ohio and nephew Jim Schwartz, his wife Caroline, and family of Slingerlands, New York.
