Obituary of Todd Lawhorne

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Todd Lawhorne, who left us on the evening of Friday, March 24, 2023.

Todd was born on March 4, 1975, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to David Lawhorne and Mary Anne Lawhorne and grew up in a loving family in Gainesville, FL alongside his younger brother Christopher.  He graduated in 1993 from Gainesville High School.

People who met Todd called him the most talented and creative person they ever met. He left an indelible impression on anyone who met him.  He also had a legendary sense of humor, which brought joy to everyone around him. In college at The University of Central Florida (class of ‘00), he threw all his passion into everything he did. He was the best player on a terrible intramural softball team, the worst guitar player in “The Charlie’s Ashes Band,” and a founding member of “The Inside Joke Gang” where he bonded with lifelong friends.   But acting is where Todd really shined. At Theatre UCF, it didn’t matter if it was comedy or drama, Todd was mesmerizing and a stand-out in every production he was involved in.

After graduation, Todd continued to work as an actor in various films and TV shows until he eventually fulfilled his childhood dream of going to The University of Florida (‘09), where he received his Masters in Public Relations. Being a Florida Gator was not only a point of pride for Todd, it was part of his identity. He worked with and for Gator Growl, Rock104, The University Athletic Association, and WRUF whenever he wasn’t cheering on the Gators or falling in love with his future wife Amanda.

Todd and Amanda were married on April 28, 2012 at the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach, FL at a magical ceremony and reception.

Also in 2012, Todd began his over a decade-long career in marketing, communications, and sales at Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, GA.

During his time at Delta Air Lines, Todd travelled the world with his wife Amanda, exploring such locales as Machu Picchu, The Great Wall of China, Petra, Israel, Thailand, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Malta, Chile, and Europe, to name a few.

When not spending his Saturdays watching Florida Gator football, Todd loved working on projects around the house, including building (entirely on his own) an addition to the family room. He also learned how to do plumbing, electrical work, drywalling, and HVAC.  When Todd set his mind on a project, he always finished it, no matter how much he had to learn in the process and no matter how exhausting the work was.  He took tremendous pride in his historic home and enjoyed creating a comfortable place for his family to live.

On September 14, 2021, Todd and Amanda’s daughter Winifred Harper Lawhorne (Winnie) was born at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  Todd adored his daughter more than anything in the world, making her laugh and smile, with the sort of silly faces and jokes that only Todd could make.

In February of 2023, Todd, Amanda, and Winnie moved to their dream home in Saint Petersburg, FL.

Todd is survived by his wife Amanda, daughter Winnie, mother Mary Anne, father David, brother Christopher, sister-in-law Courtney, niece Ellie, nephew Luke, nephew Will, father-in-law Bob, mother-in-law Debra, brother-in-law Scott, sister-in-law Alex, and two rescue dogs Eddie and Gus, all of whom will treasure his memory forever.

A memorial service will be held on May 20, 2023 in Gainesville, FL. In lieu of sending flowers or food, please consider donating to Amanda and Winnie's GoFundMe Page or making a donation in Todd's name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
