Obituary of Gerald Nelson

Gerald Nelson passed peacefully on Monday October 16 2023 after a brief illness.

Survived by his loving companion Julie Favre, cherished family members, friends and fellow mariners.

At Jerrys request no service will be held.

Born 10/26/1948 in Erie PA. As a Penn State graduate (GO Nittany Lions)  Jerry joined the workforce as a History Teacher, Supervisor of Social Services and a Banking Financial Officer, but the Gulf Stream was a much stronger force. Ditching his briefcase and Brooks Brother suits to gather up fishing poles, scuba gear and a bathing suit. Jerry lived the majority of his life on the water in Miami as an avid fisherman running charters and dive trips. The love of the seas drove him to a life of a Mariner, making a career as a Marine Engineer. Jerry had the courage to follow his heart and live the life he loved living.

Full Circle: after retiring Jerry taught Marine Engineering at Broward Collage, enjoyed "playing" The Stock Market and spending time on the seas.

2010 he moved to St Petersburg enjoying all that the West Coast of Florida has to offer. Grand Prix Races, The Rays, Lightening and Buccaneers, however always staying a true Miami Dolphin fan at heart.

Fishing took Jerry to Miami, The Keys, Bimini & Gulf of Mexico. Just recently he went on a venture of a lifetime traveling to Alaska for Salmon.

Once or twice a year Jerry would go on a cruise, even though he couldn't fish off the back of the ship. He enjoyed everything else about cruising. Being a History Buff he loved learning all he could of other countries past and present. You could find Jerry exploring spectacular ports of call or visiting one of his favorite places...the all you could eat buffet on the ship.

Jerry was ridiculously smart, ingenuitive, generous & genuinely kind hearted, he will be missed.
