Obituary of Peter Bancroft Nelson

NELSON, PETER BANCROFT, 61, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday February 24, 2000 at Home. He came here in 1951 from his native Hartford, CT. An architect, his designs include those for Holy Family Catholic Church, St. Petersburg. He worked for several Tampa area firms before opening Peter B. Nelson Architectural Services in 1988. As an associate with Anderson, Johnson, Henry & Parrish from 1968-1977, he received an award for the design of the St. Petersburg Beach Library. He also was involved in Development of commercial projects and health care facilities in the Bradenton and Sarasota areas. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for 20 years and was a former president of its Men's Club and the church's school board. He was a former Little League umpire and Cub Scout master. He received a bachelor's degree in architecture from Clemson University in 1966. He was a former member of Professional American Institute of Architects and AIA Central Florida Chapter and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Gloria A.; two sons, Craig Hill, Treasure Island, and Mark Hill, Greenville, SC.; four daughters, Karen Hill, Richfield, MN.; Paula Blattner and Victoria Nelson, both of St. Petersburg, and Stephanie Groves, Tampa; a Sister, Barbara Tellone, St. Petersburg; and three grandchildren.
