Obituary of Samual Sam'' H. McArthur

McArthur, Samuel H., ?Sam,? 80, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday, September 7, 2000, at St. Anthony?s Hospital in St. Petersburg. A native of Selma, AL, he came here in 1926, and attended local schools. He retired as Senior Vice President of Union Trust National Bank in St. Petersburg, where he started as a bank messenger in 1937, and served a total of 50 years. He served 4 years in the Army Air Corps during World War II and 18 months served in European Theatre. He graduated from the Banking School at L.S.U. and Robert Morris Banking School at Indiana University. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, since 1932 where he served on several committees and was Secretary for 45 years. Other memberships include: Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors for 16 years, Former President of Optimist Club of St. Petersburg, St. Petersburg Yacht Club, Nitram Lodge# 188 F & AM since 1948, Sunshine Commanders #20 K.T., St. Petersburg Council #14 R.J.S.M., St. Petersburg Chapter # 31 R.A.M., Egypt Temple Shrine, American Legion Post 0400, Life Member N.R.A., and Wyoming Antelope Club. He also received the 3rd Annual Inter-Civic Club Mr. Citizens Award in St. Petersburg. Survivors include: Cousins, Ward Woolly, Hiawassee, GA, Ruth W. Townsend, R.B.Woolley, Laura F. Burdick, Shirley B. Carpenter and Linda L. Wood all of St. Petersburg, Margaret E. Lewis, Orlando, FL, Willis W. Smith, Hernando, FL, W. Paul Woolley, Jr., Montgomery, AL, Charles T. Woolley, Lewisburg, NC, Gail W. Lindsey, Mobile, AL. Anderson-McQueen Funeral Homes & Cremation Tribute Center-9th Street Chapel, St. Petersburg.
