Thaxter, Clayton C. ?Clay?, 74, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday, September 24, 2000, at St. Anthony?s Hospital. Born in Middleport, NY, he came here in 1980. He was a Carpenter Forman in the Construction Industry, a Navy Ceebees Veteran of World War II and a Past President and 30-year Volunteer for the Middleport Volunteer Fire Department of Middleport, NY. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Virginia M. Thaxter; three sons, Mark D. Thaxter, Mitchel E. Thaxter and Murray C. Thaxter, all of St. Petersburg, FL; five sisters, Catharine T. Jahnke, Middleport, NY; June T. Humprey, Waterport, NY; Margaret T. O?Shaughnessy, Buffalo, NY; Mary T. Allen, Tulsa, OK and Sandra T. Tripp, Lake View, NY; two grandchildren and many nieces & Nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Middleport Fire Department, Main Street, Middleport, NY 14105 or the Middleport Library, Vernon Street, Middleport, NY 14105.
