Dear Christina: In an earlier message, I spoke of Paul's calmness, dignity, sense of purpose and wonderful sense of humor. I neglected to speak of one of the things that most impressed me about Paul, and that was his way of making clear, despite his deep sense of privacy and circumspection, his profound love for you. He was never embarrassed about professing his love for you. In fact, there were times I suspected that he seized on every opportunity available to bring the subject around to you and how much he adored you. Always remember this; I know I will. Love, Donna

I adored Paul from the moment he joined us in Human Resources at Republic Bank. He was quiet, fairly serious, and painstakingly thorough in his work. He believed in an honest day's work, and then some. Paul somehow managed to maintain calm and dignity despite the fact that he was the single male on an otherwise all female staff.....and some of the females among us did our best at times to try to involve him in our mischief. He would have none of it, though he was absolutely non-judgmental about those of us who may not have taken our work quite as seriously as he took his. Paul was understated and generally unobtrusive, but he had a wicked sense of human that simply blew us away. He was forever coming up with something out of left field which was appropriate for Paul, baseball lover that he was, but one incident will always stand out in my mind. The staff were convened for a meeting with our new director, Del Del Guidice. We were all appropriately serious, attentive and respectful. Del talked about this and that, and then mentioned that we needed to cut back on expenses. He observed that the department received many magazine and periodical subscriptions, sometimes two or three copies of the same publication. "I don't know who's ordering all of this stuff," said Del, "but we have to be a little more judicious in ordering subscriptions." From the back of the room came a quiet, apologetic voice: "But they promised me I'd win a million dollars," said Paul. Everyone, including our new boss, cracked up. And Paul just sat there, looking serious. We miss him terribly.l
