Obituary of Karl Emerson Applegate

Applegate, Karl Emerson, D.P.M., 80, of Ft. Myers, died Wednesday December 20, 2000 in Ft. Myers. Born in St. Petersburg, the son of John LaRue Applegate and Bertie Franck Applegate, he was a 1938 graduate of St. Petersburg High School. He attended St. Petersburg Junior College and graduated from New York College of Podiatric Medicine in 1942, where he did post-graduate work in 1946. He was a Top Gunner in a B-29 in the 20th Bomber Command, AAF and served in the CBI Theatre, stationed in India. In 1946, he married Blanche Franzmann and moved back to St. Petersburg where he and his brother, the late John M. Applegate, opened a medical practice in podiatry. He retired from his practice in 1985 and moved to Ft. Myers in 1998. He was a life member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and of the Florida Podiatric Medical Association. He was Drive Chairman of the 1952 March of Dimes and served as Chairman of the Lower Pinellas County March of Dimes for nearly 20 years. He was president of Bay Point Middle School PTA, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Downtown St. Petersburg, the Over The Hill Gang and the Madeira Beach Bowling League. He was an avid fisherman his entire life. He was a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Blanche F. Applegate, a daughter, Laura A. Rockenstein of Ft. Myers, a son, Richard E. Applegate of Jacksonville, a sister, Aria Brown of Holiday, 2 grandsons, Dan R. Rockenstein and Brad E. Rockenstein, both of Ft.
