Obituary of Ralph Edward Spicer

Ralph E. Spicer, Jr., 58, of St. Petersburg, FL, died Thursday, August 3, 2006 at his residence under the care of The Hospice Of The Florida Suncoast. He was born in Franklin, NH and moved to St. Petersburg in 1988 from Falls Church, VA. He was the owner and administrator of the Crescent Garden Apartments, Crescent Manor Apartments, and Crescent Manor Assisted Living Facility all in St. Petersburg. Ralph was a brilliant writer in his own right and was highly educated in military history and geography. He was an avid gardener and hosted and cared for ELS students at Eckerd College from Korea, China, Peru, and Argentina. He was a volunteer at Friends Of Strays and rescued over 20 cats giving them a home for life. He was an Army veteran of the Viet Nam War and later worked for the Department Of The Army at the Pentagon as a Supervisor of Plans and Development, Enlisted Distribution Assignment Systems Development Office, and the Enlisted Personnel Management Directorate. He received many awards including the Commander Award for Civilian Service. He was Catholic. Ralph fought a great fight with dignity and no complaining to overcome Cancer. They gave him four months but he lived over 1 1/2 years. The V.A. Medical Center at Bay Pines asked him to come and talk to veterans who had just found out they had Cancer and their families about what to expect from Chemotherapy and answer their questions. He gave the V.A. at Bay Pines high marks for their love and consideration and for all the treatment and kindness they gave to him, especially the doctors and nurses, Kathy and Melva and the entire Chemotherapy staff.Ralph loved music from the 40’s to the 80’s. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Rita A.; his Godmother, Aunt Alice and Uncle Skip Hanks of Tilton, NH; his sisters, Sabra and Andy Aberstrom, Wynne Dawn Pullins, Meri Huckins; his brother, Paul and Lori Huckins all of Glendale, AZ; Cousins, Greg and Nancy Hanks of ME, Jeannie Bolstridge of NH; and special email friends and family, Skip, Sabra, Kathleen, Bill, Greg, Jeannie, Jean, Mary, Lamar, Kimberly, John Isett, and John Rogers."Remember me as you pass by; As you are now so once was I; As I am now so you will be; Prepare thyself to follow me."
